The hardness of your wood floor is an important criterion when choosing a hardwood floor. The Janka hardness test measures the hardness of wood. In a nutshell, the test measures the amount of force required to embed a steel ball half-way into the wood. It is the way the flooring industry measures the ability of a wood species to withstand denting and wear. If your floor will be more prone to wear and tear, you may want to select a harder wood.
